Location: Paradijsvogelstraat 11, 9713 BV GRONINGEN
Date: July 2022
Size: The whole building 23 x 12 x 8 m
Design:  A property that has been vacant for several years. In order to give this building a suitable new function, I first researched what is needed in the Oosterpark district. This showed that social cohesion is decreasing. To respond to this, I went back to the building and analyzed what I noticed around it. I felt a lot of wind every time I went back. To analyze the wind I used wasco and hung it on the nearest tree and let the wind move it on paper.
From that observation, it turned out that the wind often comes from the north-east and I started to design from the drawn lines. To promote social cohesion, the building is designed in such a way that you will meet through the inspiration of wind. In the building, you will be moved with the wind you feel through the openings in the walls. Just like in everyday life, wind can give you peace, storm in your mind and movement in faster pace or slower.

The visualizations below show that wind is allowed around and into the building, creating sound, gathering and also art. Art because there are openings in the building which allows the wind to pass through, which causes the ropes in the building to move, and on those ropes is paint which causes a piece of art to come out. The openings of the building can be blocked, so you can change the wind movement and if you work together you can create your own artwork.
